Report from Paris
in residence at the Cité internationale des arts, the world’s largest arts residence, has been bringing together more than 300 artists of all origins and generations in the heart of Paris since 1965.
I am three weeks into this residency and the past few months have been busy in preparation so my apologies for the long ‘space’ between posts. Firstly, Paris is amazing, as you may well know, both light and dark, it’s never been a ‘city of lights’ to me, but one of various colours; both light and dark: like it’s history.
What have I done so far: research for an upcoming book and exhibition: speaking of exhibitions I will be presenting ‘Perhaps I’m A Chosen Instrument,’ an archival (re) emergence, with Norval Morrisseau, which will open in Paris this April as part of ‘Freeing The Voices’ exhibition, curated by Zdenka Badovinac, and featuring works by Noor Abed, Marina Abramović, Lawrence Abu Hamdan, Babi Badalov, and others.
More on this tomorrow: for now a renewed bonjour and some photos: I am a point-and-shoot kind of photographer: I like the simplicity, like old polaroids, I like the immediacy and I like the basic lack of human fiddling with that time of camera: so some images from Paris.
Tomorrow, I will post more on what I am working on: its archival, Indigenous, and also contemporary. But for now, some photos.
I hope you will decide to subscribe: there are some plans in the works for supporting, ie paid, subscribers as well.
a bientôt
